30 Day Blog Challenge: Day 14

14.Your earliest memory.

I was 2 years old, playing in the dirt on the side of our apartment building in Santa Monica. My sister Lotus* came around the corner and said "come on Hazel*, we're moving". So I followed her. This is when we moved to Sylmar.

I think I've remembered this event all these years not because it's especially memorable but because of it's special status as my first memory, it's been reconsolidated each time I bring it to mind. I sort of wish that it was common practice to recount more than one earliest memory, such as five, so that I could have held onto more memories from when I was two years old.

*Names changed.

My earliest memory is sitting in the kitchen of our house in Pacifica, so circa 1975 or 1976, and I was on the counter with my older sister. My mom was cutting our nails and I think I bit down on mine real loud - and both of them looked over at me. And there began years and years of nail biting. I really didn't like those clippers. Owwwy.

My earliest memory is sitting on the toilet in the apartment we lived in when I was 2. We moved when I was 2 1/2 so I know it was around 2 and I know it's a memory because there is definitely no picture of it!
